Coastal Jazz & Blues Society presents John Stetch Trio at The Cellar Restaurant/Jazz Club Edmonton-born, New-York-based John Stetch (Rufus Reid, Billy Hart, Seamus Blake) is the latest in a long line of Canadian pianists — from Oscar Peterson to Paul Bley to Renee Rosnes — to impact the Canadian jazz scene. Billboard magazine calls him “exceptional.” With Nicholas Walker bass, Greg Ritchie drums.

Friends of Chamber Music presents TOKYO STRING QUARTET
Since her celebrated departure from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in 1983 Sabine Meyer has established herself as an eminent soloist with the world’s leading orchestras. She is also a committed chamber musician and has performed extensively with such notable colleagues as the Hagen and Alban Berg Quartets, Heinrich Schiff and Gidon Kremer. The Tokyo Quartet first played for us in 1973 and continues to be one of the leading international quartets playing today in Europe, North America and the Far East. They perform on the “Paganini Quartet”, a group of Stradivarius instruments on loan to them by the Nippon Music Foundation since 1995.

Blackbird Theatre launches its 2008-2009 season with Pinter’s Briefs, a collection of quirky, superbly entertaining short plays by Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter, directed by John Wright and starring Simon Webb and Anthony F. Ingram. These rarely-performed comic gems – six short pieces and the iconic one-act play The Dumb Waiter – have been collected from the master’s oeuvre and polished to perfection by Vancouver’s award-winning Blackbird Theatre. Pinter’s Briefs will be presented in intimate venues over the next several months.
